The development commissioner for handlooms, government of India department of handloom and textiles, government of Karnataka has been implementing number of schemes and projects for welfare of handloom weavers, National handloom development programme is one among those, Chamarajanagar block handloom cluster comes under this scheme.

The block is well connected to major cities of Karnataka and is in proximity to Bangalore is about 200 kms and Mysore which is about 60 kms, this cluster is famous for its products from the time immemorial. The silk which provides warm in winter and coolness in summer. Kollegal Is famous for its designs and excellent workmanship and colour.

To understand the socio economic factors of cluster, to find out the problems faced by the cluster and to suggest remedial measures by way of preparing action plans for future, to fulfill all this needs diagnostic study has initially been made by department of handlooms and textiles, Chamarajanagar.During the visit to the block, the study team interacted with individual weavers to know their problems like raw material, production capacity, product diversification, marketing and infrastructure. To overcome all this problems Chamarajanagar Block handloom cluster has been established on 7th august 2017 inaugurated by Shri S.Jayanna Honble MLA, Kollegal.

Cluster development executive(CDE) has been appointed to look over administrative works and development of the cluster, and Designer cum marketing executive has been appointed to Design development & marketing of newly developed products according to market needs on 04/10/2017

Collection of census data from all the weavers in block like Aadhar card, bank details, weavers ID card, photographs, has been done by CDE & Secretary, Collected data has been uploaded to Handloom census by CDE.

Chamarajanagar handloom cluster represented in 37th India international trade fair 2017(Karnataka pavilion) at pragathi maidan New Delhi from 14th to 27th November. It helps cluster products by giving good market in Delhi & reaches cluster name all over India.

An tender is called for empanelment of loom and loom accessories in The Hindu news paper on 27th October 2017 later tender has been opened at WSC Bangalore, with officials from both state & central government & managing committee, in that supply order has been given to three traders namely Kannan jacquards Madurai, Balaji industries arani, & Manjunatha handlooms Darmavaram, to supply the loom and loom accessories. In these weavers has benefitted frame loom, 240 hooks jacquard, motorized jacquard lifting machine, & let up & takeoff motion.

An tender have to be called later this month to empanel emergency lights to weavers, UPS & warping machine to co-opp society.

An training programme has been arranged at NIMSME, Hyderabad about cluster approach, Both CDE and Secretary along with deputy director H/L Chamarajanagar & Bangalore, Deputy director WSC Bangalore are attended one week training programme.

An TANA BANA computerized jacquard introduction camp has organized at cluster Meeting hall interested beneficiaries and All the secretary of co-opp society has attended the camp Mr. Sharad adar, director Tana bana jacquards given detailed procedure about computerized jacquard, Deputy director & textile inspector, Handlooms and textiles Chamarajanagar are participated in the camp.

Cluster monitoring meeting has been organized on 05/01/2018 at cluster meeting hall to review progress of cluster. In this discussed about HSS camp and collection of application for designing training under skill up gradation programme, Official from WSC & Handloom and textiles Chamarajanagar have attended.

HSS camp, One day work shop on various schemes for handloom weavers & inauguration of designing training has been done on 18/01/2018 by Shri Shantharaju city municipal counseling president inaugurated the programme.

Designing training programme for 20 weavers for 15 days has been started on 18/01/2018, the training will organized at cluster training hall, an Master Designer & Asst Master designer appointed for guide the trainees.

In coming month planning to start Weaving training For 40 weavers in 2 batches, and issue of loom and loom accessories to weavers have been done in late February.
