Hunagund Block (sulebhavi) is famous handloom center . Nearly 626 handlooms are working in production of traditional Ilkal sarees. Most of the weavers are working for master weavers. Market for traditional Ilkal sarees is season based . Weavers earning is very low because ,
* They use traditional looms.
* Old technology.
* Use of single warp system.
By introducing the cluster programme at sulebhavi (hunagund block level cluster), first time we have introduced the warp beam system to the pit looms. Training center is set up at sulebhavi. Now weavers are using the warp beams for the production of Ilkal type and also Ambose and Brocade silk variety sarees.
In the beginning 20 weavers have been trained for weaving the traditional silk sarees with use of modern looms . These weavers are trained to weave the silk saree of traditional Ilkal type and also Ambose and Brocade silk sarees variety. Now 10 weavers have set-up the looms in their own houses. Use of Jacquard is new to this area.
10 weavers have been provided with the loom accessories to weave the Ilkal type and also Ambose and Brocade silk variety sarees. with use of metal reed. The weavers are very happy with new looms and Jacquard system. The topteni and solid boarder sarees previously woven with two weavers. After introduction of new looms only one weaver can do the job.
Government of India has Sanctioned Rs, 108.00 lakhs rupees project for development of Handloom Cluster at Hunagund Block level in state of Karnataka under National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) as per order dated 10-06-2016. This project is implemented by Shree Shakhambari weavers co-op society Ltd Sulebhavi tq; Hunagund dist; Bagalkot, covers 626 weavers under different components as below.
1. Training Programme in weaving, dyeing , designing. 2. Supplying Looms Accessories and Pneumatic Jacquards, 3. Installing CATD Center for new Designs. 4. Construction of work shed 5. Construction Common facility Center. 6. Engaging Designer cum Marketing Executive. 7. Corpus fund for Yarn Depo etc.
Weaving Training:-
1st Batch Weaving Training has completed for 20 trainees for 45 days during 07-08-2016 to 30-09-2016, and released Rs. 4.28 Lakhs. On the same day the first batch weaving training programme was closed. Then 20 Beneficiaries are selected for 2nd Batch weaving training and training had started on 30-09-2016.
Dyeing Training:-
Dyeing Training has completed for 20 trainees for 15 days during 15-12-2016 to 30-12-2016. And released Rs. 1.27 Lakhs.
Designing Training:-
Designing Training has completed for 20 trainees for 15 days during 02-09-2016 to 21-09-2016 and released Rs. 1.27 Lakhs.

10 set of Jacquard, Looms and Accessories being purchased installment of Machines under progress.
